Sunset Mall Remains Closed Despite Approval from the Governor

SAN ANGELO, TX – The Sunset Mall is looking to reopen to the public soon but it won't be on May 1 with the rest of the retail stores.

Governor Greg Abbott announced on April 27 that retail stores, including malls, could open to the public as long as they kept 25% capacity. Here's the story: Gov. Abbott: Restaurants & Churches Can Open but Salons Remain Closed

At the Galleria in Houston hundreds of people could be inside of the mall and still be at 25% capacity so Abbott demanded all "food-court dining areas, play areas, and interactive displays and settings remain closed."

Despite the absence of business at the Sunset Mall, they have decided to remain closed until further notice.

"Our top priority is the safety of our shoppers, tenants and employees at Sunset Mall and we are excited to (re)connect with you," said Sabrina Forse General Manager of the Sunset Mall. "We are currently preparing for (re)entry, and plans and preparations to open to the public are underway."

It is unclear when the Sunset Mall will reopen its doors.
