Tom Green County Appraisal District: Protesting Property Values Amid Social Distancing

SAN ANGELO, TX –  Due to the coronavirus healthcare issues, the Tom Green County Appraisal Review Board is unable to conduct in person taxpayer protest hearings until further notice.  However, appraisal district staff will be available daily to conduct meetings with taxpayers concerning value, exemption questions, or protests. Meetings will be in written form and via telephone.

When the 2020 "Notices of Appraised Value" are mailed out, there will be a link in property owner accounts on the website that will allow for filing a protest form online. Property owners will still be able to mail in or email the protest form as well.  You can find the protest form on the Texas Comptroller’s website or on TGCAD website (www.tomgreencad.com).  It is form number (50-132).

The Appraisal Review Board  will deal with most of the protests informally over phone conversations for the time being.  For individuals who would like a formal hearing with the Appraisal Review Board, staff will be conducting a combination of phone and internet conferences.  Formal hearings typically don’t take place until late summer, so TGCAD may be able to have some person to person hearings if COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
