San Angelo, TX – Members of Operation Warmheart, a year-long initiative managed by the Goodfellow Air Force Base First Sergeant Council, met on Tuesday, March 3 to accept a monetary donation from a group of local donors. The $10,192.00 donation was presented to Operation Warmheart by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee on behalf of the San Angelo community.
Funds for Operation Warmheart were raised by San Angelo Support for Veterans Inc., Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Grace Presbyterian Church, and First Presbyterian Church throughout 2019.
Support from Operation Warmheart aids military members in unique situations that military aid programs are unable to provide financial assistance for. Such situations have included:
- Vehicle repair on the only vehicle for the spouse of a deployed member with nine children
- Flight and lodging for the mother of a student diagnosed with and later passed away from leukemia
- Clothes and food for a family who lost everything in a house fire until insurance provided compensation
- Flight home to allow an Airman to remove 3-year-old son (disabled – blind, deaf, cerebral palsy) from physically abusive caregiver
These are just a handful of the difficult situations that funds from Operation Warmheart have provided support for.
“Operation Warmheart provides monetary assistance to Airmen in need and helps keep the mission on track for the Base and in larger perspective, the Air Force,” said Roman L. Rocha, MSgt, USAF.
“With that, the welfare of our Airmen is our business… so when life takes an unexpected turn, Operation Warmheart stands at the ready to help individuals during emergency situations. No Airmen in need will be left behind.”
The success of Operation Warmheart is a direct reflection of the ‘warm hearts’ of Goodfellow Air Force Base and our local San Angelo community! All donations and contributions are redistributed through gifts, monetary loans, grants, and random acts of kindness.
We are truly thankful for the impact Operation Warmheart has made and we look forward to helping many more military families in 2020. We are humbled by this gracious city and thank you for your support!
