City of San Angelo Seeking Input on Proposed Low Income Housing Project

SAN ANGELO, TX – The City of San Angelo is seeking input on a proposed housing development next Thursday.

According to a press release, the public can offer thoughts on a proposed housing development competing for state tax credits during a town hall meeting Jan. 30.

The forum will be at 6 p.m. at the McNease Convention Center, 501 Rio Concho Drive. Citizens will hear details about the proposed project vying for funding through the state’s Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. The housing proposal is:

Walnut Trails by Trinity Housing Development, LLC., at the corner of Houston Harte Expressway and Northwest Drive, 48-60 units.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs makes funding available through tax credits for single- and multi-family rental construction projects. Credits are awarded through a competitive process. The state will award credits to only one project from this area, which includes Midland and Odessa. City political and financial support improves a project’s competitiveness and is often the deciding factor in which earns the tax credits.

Two local developments, each for seniors, have earned tax credits in recent years and have both been completed. Those projects are Kirby Park Villas at 609 W. 29th St., and Oak Trails Apartments at 625 Rio Concho Drive.
