Dangerous Dog Days of Summer in the Concho Valley: Triple Digit Heat All Week

SAN ANGELO, TX -- Triple digit heat is forecast for the Concho Valley all week and there's no rain in sight.

According to forecasters with the National Weather Service office in San Angelo, an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm remains a possibility east of a Throckmorton to Sonora line again this afternoon and that ends any chances for rain the next few days.

Heat will be the main concern all week.

An upper ridge over the four corners area will drift eastward into central Texas through mid to late week.

Temperatures will continue to hover around or just above the century mark through the end of the week into the weekend with little relief in sight.

While there are no heat advisories or heat warnings at this time, forecasters could issue important information as conditions change.

Heat index values may approach advisory levels by late week, especially over parts of the Concho Valley. Expect overnight lows to drop into the 70s each night. No rain expected through the weekend.

High temperatures are expected to rise to around 100 degrees with some areas getting into the triple digits. Dry weather is in store for tonight with low temperatures in the low to mid 70s.

Don't leave children or pets in hot cars.  Forecasters advise everyone to drink plenty of water and avoid outdoor activity during the hot afternoon hours.  Stay inside as much as possible and check up on elderly residents to ensure they have a cool place to stay.

Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are possible with temperatures as high as they will be all week.  Signs of heat exhaustion include confusion, fatigue, headache, muscle cramps, nausea, profuse sweating and rapid heartbeat.  Treatment for heat related illness includes drinking plenty of fluids, getting inside out of the heat, and cooling down with a cold shower or cool, damp towels.  If symptoms persist, experts recommend seeking medical treatment.
