Watch: Long Time Miniature Golf Course Being Demolished

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The miniature golf course on College Hills Blvd. is being demolished this week to make room for a new sports complex.

As we reported earlier, Sports Next Level, LLC leases the property from the city and requested a special use permit allowing for a golf driving range, outdoor multi-use sports facilities and related activities, outdoor miniature golf and outdoor events.

According to the concept plan, Sports Next Level, LLC plans to add two new outdoor baseball fields, a new outdoor multi-use field, three volleyball courts, three new indoor multi-sport buildings, a gym and a retail store, and the existing driving range, restaurant and parking lot.  The report to the city council says the existing miniature golf course would be removed for the present time.

The San Angelo City Council approved the special use permit at Tuesday's regular meeting.

Unfortunately, everyone - including the media - is ignoring something known as FEMA and the fact that the whole area is a well known flood zone. It's going to cost someone (city? developer?) about $1.5 million to meet the flood plain requirements that FEMA has laid out for that area. It's great that the city and all us San Angeloans are in such support of the complex - however, someone has to pacify FEMA........good luck with that.........
