Rep. Darby Recognizes Bahlman Cleaners for Outstanding Continuous Service in Texas
SAN ANGELO, TX - Today, Representative Drew Darby (San Angelo), Senator Charles Perry (Lubbock), and the Office of Governor Greg Abbott presented Bahlman Cleaners with a Texas Treasure Business Award from the Texas Historical Commission (THC).
The Texas Treasure Business Award program pays tribute to businesses that have provided employment opportunities and support to the state's economy for 50 years or more. Created in 2005, the program recognizes well-established Texas businesses and their exceptional historical contributions to the state's economic growth and prosperity.
"Today I am proud to join the Office of Governor Gregg Abbott and Senator Charles Perry to present Bahlman Cleaners with the prestigious Texas Treasure Business Award" said Representative Darby. "Bahlman Cleaners is a staple in West Texas and I am honored to recognize their contributions to our communities and the State of Texas."
A special decal identifying the business as a Texas Treasure will be publicly displayed in Bahlman Cleaners. Consumers will know when they spot the familiar Texas Treasure Businessicon, they are doing business with a well-established, Texas-owned-and-operated business that has long contributed to job growth, stimulated the local economy, and generated state and local tax revenues.
Bahlman Cleaners is a family-owned and operated dry cleaner and laundry service that has proudly served West Texas for over 70 years. Melvin Bahlman, purchased his first cleaner in Robert Lee, Texas. In 1958, Melvin expanded to Sweetwater and shortly after, opened up locations in San Angelo and Winters. In 1979 ownership was transferred to the newly formed Bahlman Industries, Inc. Leon Bahlman served the corporation as the President and CEO, while sons Danny and Kenny Bahlman acted as Vice Presidents. Since 1980, the Bahlman Family have opened five locations in San Angelo and have served all throughout West Texas with locations in Odessa, Sonora, and Ozona.
