PAINT ROCK, TX - Second to South Africa the United States is one of the largest producers of mohair with the majority of the product coming from Texas. In Paint Rock just 30 miles east of San Angelo a unique mohair handwoven rug company can be found reuniting the past with the present.
"The process of weaving is ancient," said Renee Farmer co-owner of Texas Handwoven Creations formerly known as Ingrid's Hand Woven, Inc. "The sheering and gathering of fleece from animals is also ancient."

What makes this process one of a kind in creating beautiful handwoven rugs is how elements of creation are brought together.
"There are many places that do weaving that are automatic," said Farmer. "What makes us unique is that we are still doing things in the way they were originally done and producing something that is uniquely handwoven and each one is a different piece."
According to Farmer custom orders can take up to 6-8 weeks to create or sometimes even longer, but as the old saying goes good things comes to those who wait.
"I do know from personal experience that these rugs will last up to 20 to 35 years," said Farmer. "They stand up really well to wear and tear along with West Texas weather. They're easy care and have long-lasting durability."
