ICYMI: WATCH: Tears Flow as Legendary San Angelo Police Officer Retires

SAN ANGELO, TX -- The San Angelo Police Department is filled with dedicated and professional officers who protect and serve the citizens of San Angelo selflessly and we are fortunate to have each and every one of them.

Traffic Division Patrol Officer Brian Bylsma has served as one of San Angelo's finest since 1998.  Bylsma retired recently and friends, family and coworkers held a retirement ceremony for Bylsma Friday morning in City Council chambers at the McNease Convention Center.

Watch the Video:

SAPD Chief Frank Carter introduced Bylsma and described how he served for 20 years in the United States Air force and retired in San Angelo before joining the SAPD as a dispatcher.

Chief Carter presented Bylsma with a United States flag that was flown over the police station in his honor.  Chief Carter also presented Bylsma with a retirement watch from the city and a certificate of retirement and a plaque.

The San Angelo Coalition of Police, represented by Sgt. Kelly Lajoie, presented Bylsma with a retirement badge.

Bylsma thanked his wife and his fellow officers and said that now is time for his family.
