Crime Report: Midland and Del Rio Safer Cities than San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, TX -- A report about safety and security ranks Midland and Del Rio as safer cities than San Angelo.

According to safewise.com, San Angelo ranks 153 out of the 287 cities ranked in Texas.

Midland ranks 149 and Del Rio ranks 26.

The report shows that Texas has slightly higher violent and property crime rates compared to national averages. Its 4.95 violent crime rate is barely over the national rate of 4.49 incidents per 1,000 people and 84 percent of the safest cities reported fewer than one violent crime per 1,000 residents.

Property crime rates show the state’s 29.11 rate tops the national rate of 27.11—but not by much and 100 percent of the cities on the list did better than the national property crime rate, with no city experiencing more than 23.72 incidents per 1,000.

To identify the safest cities of 2019, Safewise reviewed 2017 FBI crime report statistics (the most recent complete report available at the time of ranking) and population data. Cities that fell below identified populations thresholds—or that failed to submit a complete crime report to the FBI—were excluded from the report.

San Angelo showed a population of 101,931 with 2.77 violent crimes per 1,000 and 44.14 property crimes per 1,000.

Abilene was not included in the list.

Safewise rankings are based on the number of reported violent crimes (aggravated assault, murder, rape, and robbery) in each city. If there was a tie, Safewise factored in the number of property crimes (burglary, arson, larceny-theft, and motor vehicle theft). Precedence was give to violent crime because it typically results in physical harm or injury, whereas property crime usually has an economic impact.

The safest city in Texas according to the report is Kermit.  San Angelo was ranked safer than Brownwood (214), Big Spring (246), and Odessa (272).  According to the report the least safe city is Texarkana.

The top five safest cities in Texas according to the report are Kermit, Memorial Village, Fairview, Trophy Club, and Colleyville.

The bottom five on the list include Beaumont, Houston, Pecos, Elsa and Texarkana.

When everyone get probation they are right back on the streets ! Remember that when you vote !

How Embarrassing !!! Looks like we need to take a closer look at our Police Dept. #crimeprevention #protectandserve

Obviously you don't actually read SAL. The daily booking report covers the long list of the arrested and booked into TGCJ. Yesterday, Thursday was a slow day, only 24 booked, just one loser per hour taken off the streets. Check in on Monday to see how hard SAPD worked over the weekend.
Policing is not the problem. The problem starts after arrest. Much too obtainable bail amounts for violent and sex offenders. Lawyers and judges conspiring with the DA to let these folks out in hopes of making cash for city and county.
On the other hand, if we hold everyone until trial, and the result is either acquittal or incarceration, your taxes are going to skyrocket in order to pay for the thousands of jail cells needed to accommodate the swarm of detainees and convicts. Are you prepared to pay for it?
Needless to say, the root problem is decay of our collective values and morals combined with the influx of vile and inexpensive drugs.
I can offer no real solutions, but blaming the cops is not placing blame where it belongs.

Easy solution, leave over-taxed, high crime San Angelo. There are many small towns around Angelo with low/nil crime rates. Drive to Angelo, shop/eat/catch a movie, then go home to a safe environment. It is readily apparent the leadership of Angelo cares nothing about the crime rate (hence wanting an interstate connecting Laredo to Lubbock) and the DA had rather cut a deal for probation than prosecute a criminal. I wouldn't live in San Angelo if you gave it to me....
