Police and Firefighters Gives Tips On How to Stay Safe During Holiday Season

SAN ANGELO, TX-- The Christmas season is upon us and even though it is a time of happiness and celebration there are always a few Grinchs out there.

The San Angelo Police Department and the San Angelo Fire Department has issued tips on how to stay safe throughout the season.

SAPD reminds San Angeloans to always lock car doors and hide presents if they are left in the car.  Even in the cold weather do not leave a vehicle running.

The PD reminds residents not to leave doors and windows unlocked, and make sure blinds closed.

Fires can also be a damper on the Christmas Spirit and SAFD says that one of every four home Christmas tree fires is caused by electrical problems.

Although rare, when a Christmas tree fire does occur one of 32 reported home Christmas tree fires results in a death compared to an average of one death per 143 total reported home fires.

Candles start two out of five home decoration structure fires and the top three days for home candle fires are Christmas, New Year’s Day, and Christmas Eve.
