San Angelo Men Pledge Against Domestic Violence

SAN ANGELO, TX – October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Tuesday the Family Shelter at 79 Gillis is having an event partnered with the San Angelo Pinup Dolls.

The shelter and dolls are recruiting men to stand with women against violence by signing the banner with their painted handprints and signing a pledge card to take home with information about family violence.

Valerie Tillery, Family Shelter Program Director said, “This is the first year that we are doing this event. We are doing something different every week during the month of October.”

“Valerie asked to come out and help with the pledge today. We are a non-profit organization that raises awareness against domestic violence and gives back to the community,” says Serenity Ford, Founder of Pinup Dolls USA.

The handprint signing event will last until 6 p.m. today with a facility tour and refreshments as well.

On Friday October 26, the family shelter is hosting a Candlelight Vigil at 7 p.m. at the San Angelo Performing Arts Center, 82 Gillis, right across from the family shelter.

They will be celebrating and honoring victims, reading of the names of 136 Family Violence Fatalities in 2017 and give special awards to the San Angelo law enforcement. A reception will follow.
