Jim Bass Ford Donates Food to the Sonora Flood Relief

SONORA, TX -- Representatives of Jim Bass Ford of San Angelo on Monday drove to Sonora and donated food to those who were affected by the Sonora river flooding that happened on Friday.

Over 400 sandwiches were purchased from HEB, along with many cases of bottled water and Gatorade, boxes of chips, paper plates and Clorox wipes.

Robert Trevino, a salesman at Jim Bass Ford, was born and raised in Sonora. “I drove down and donated my own supplies yesterday. I asked Stacy what they needed, and Jim Bass Ford decided to pay for food to donate as well,” Trevino said. “We have a lot of customers in Sonora that I know personally from living there. I’ve seen the water come up before but not like that.”

Sonora’s relief efforts headquarters are being held at the Sutton County 4-H Civic Center. All meals are being prepared and distributed by at least 15 volunteers.

Stacy Fisher, the volunteer Food Coordinator said, “On Sunday, we made around 2,000 meals. We will have enough food to last us through Thursday night. If people are unable to get out of their homes, we can deliver three meals per person per day to them.”

Senior football player for Sonora High School Alex Castilleja said, “On Saturday we went to go watch game film and Coach Cordell told us that we need to go help the community, because it was more important. First, we went to Hotel 6 and to different churches on Sunday. I like helping people because it feels good.”

Two of his teammates were affected directly by the flooding. “One of my friends had about five feet of water in his house and another had four.” Since Saturday, he has worked for 14 hours for the relief cause, taking Monday off school. Sonora High School has the option to either go to school or help at the Civic Center.
