McDonalds Putting on Promotion for 50th Anniversary of the Big Mac

 

SAN ANGELO, TX-- Fans of McDonald’s signature burger, the Big Mac, can celebrate its 50th anniversary starting Thursday, Aug. 2.

McDonalds announced on Sunday that 6.2 million “MacCoins” will be distributed worldwide.

The company said 14,000 US-based stores will participate in the promotion, including the three San Angelo restaurants on Bryant, Southwest Blvd. and 29th St.

Fans can get these limited edition coins by purchasing a Big Mac at participating locations. Once you have a coin, you can redeem it for a free Big Mac, give it away to a friend or collect it.

The MacCoin will feature these different eras during the 50-year span of the popular sandwich:

  • The ‘70s, showcasing the decade’s flower power
  • The ‘80s alluding to pop art
  • The ‘90s defined with bold, abstract shapes
  • The early ‘00s specifically focusing on the technology that was at the forefront of the turn of the century
  • The ‘10s MacCoin calling attention to the evolution of communication

Customers can begin redeeming the coin on Aug. 3.
