SAN ANGELO, TX — Chair Marilyn Aboussie announced the San Angelo Health Foundation awarded $351,984 to six area non-profit organizations. Since its founding, the SAHF has benefitted 206 organizations by financing 690 projects. Every quarter, the Foundation selects new projects to support with grants.
Grants Chair David Lupton said the following grants encompass community improvement, education, early childhood development and youth enrichment:
Concho Christmas Celebrations was awarded $13,121 to install additional poinsettias along the Concho River for the annual light display. The additional poinsettias will complete the poinsettia displays along the banks of the Concho River by the San Angelo Visitor Center. Their records show that 71,000 people from 248 cities and 30 states toured the display in 2017.
Howard College was awarded $40,000 over three years for quarterly non-profit training. The topics will benefit nonprofits by providing valuable training and information pertinent to the nonprofit environment. Howard College offers a wide assortment of associate degrees, training certifications and continuing education classes.
Miles Empowerment Association was awarded $75,000 for a new community playground. The playground structure will be installed at the City Park in Miles. Miles Empowerment Association’s mission is to bring pride to the community of Miles by building a better future for the children and a brighter place to call home.
Mosaic in San Angelo was awarded $98,863 for maintenance and equipment for the Redwine Childcare Center. Mosaic in San Angelo provides care for intellectually disabled adults and children. They are unique in offering care at their Redwine Childcare Center which enrolls children with or without disabilities.
San Angelo Area Foundation was awarded $50,000 to develop a revisioning plan on potential uses for Santa Fe Park. Santa Fe Park located along the North Concho River from Caddo Street to Randolph Street encompasses the Santa Fe Golf Course, Kids Kingdom and open community park areas.
Sterling City First United Methodist Church Pre-School was awarded $75,000 toward a new playground. The Pre-School began as a Mother’s Day Out program offering care one day a week. They have evolved to a recognized 3-Star Program by Texas Rising Star offering care five days a week. They are the only licensed day care facility in Sterling City.
