Grape Creek's Huge New Allsup's Caters to Community and Truckers

GRAPE CREEK, TX --  The new Allsup's Convenience Store in Grape Creek held it's grand opening Friday and Saturday with give aways, free soft drinks, free chocolate milk and a visit from a Superbowl Champion Dallas Cowboy and the traveling Dallas Cowboy museum.

Allsup's Marketing Director George Banister said the new store is across the street from the old one and they now cater to trucks.  "We like trucks, 18-wheelers.  Some Convenience stores don't."

Allsup's store number 352 is located at the corner of Grape Creek Rd. and US Hwy 87 North in Grape Creek, 8210 Highway 87 North.

Banister says they have most grocery store items and they are reasonably priced.  Grape Creek hasn't had a grocery store since Fisher's Food Mart closed.

The grand opening included a visit from Dallas Cowboy Charles Haley on Friday.  The Dallas Cowboys mobile museum will be open for free tours through Saturday afternoon.

They are having drawings for a flat screen TV, a grill, free food and many other items.

Banister says they have over 300 stores in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.  The convenience store chain is headquartered in Clovis, NM.

According to the Allsup’s website, Allsup’s is a family affair and still owned and operated by its founding family.  Lonnie Allsup passed away in January 2018 but his family still owns and operates the chain. With over 300 stores in 160 towns and cities, some things have changed, but the basic formula of convenience, new products, and good systems has not changed.

The convenience store chain’s website also says, “We support our local economy by providing gas from Texas and New Mexico.”  All Allsup’s stores are open 24 hours a day.

Banister says they haven't decided what they will do with the old store across the street.  It is closed for now.  "We might sell it.  Or we might tear it down for additional parking.  Sometimes we do that.  I don't think that decision has been made yet."
