Energy Secretary Rick Perry Cancels Visit to San Angelo, 2 Keynote Speakers Added to Summit Lineup

SAN ANGELO, TX — The West Texas Legislative Summit line-up is evolving as we approach the Aug. 1-2 event orchestrated by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. This year’s summit will focus on Energy: Landscape of Opportunity.

According to Chamber spokeswoman Anne Flippin, Secretary Perry had a scheduling conflict. In his place the Chamber has booked Shawn Bennett, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Oil and Natural Gas - U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Fossil Energy. He will present a keynote address on Thursday, Aug. 2. Bennett has more than a decade of experience in public affairs and government relations in the coal, oil and gas industries.

A second keynote speaker was announced this afternoon. J. Christopher “Chris” Giancarlo, Chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission will speak immediately following Bennett’s remarks. Giancario is an expert on the Dodd-Frank regulatory regime. He has spoken about impact of the futures markets on the oil and gas industry, particularly on the volatility of liquidity.

The dual keynotes are joined by oil and gas industry leaders and lawmakers who will attend and participate in the all-day summit. Topics to be discussed include: Perspectives and Producers from the Delaware and Permian; Alternative Energy and Local Impacts; Transportation: Pipe, Rail, Roads and Ports; The Economics of Energy Independence; and A preview of the 86th Legislative session of the Texas House and Senate in 2019.
