County Rejects All Bids for Leasing Downtown Library Cafe Space

SAN ANGELO, TX — The cafe space in the Stephens Central Library downtown will remain vacant for at least two more weeks.

Tom Green County Commissioners Tuesday rejected all proposals to operate the cafe in the Stephens Central Library located at 33 W. Beauregard and approved going out for new proposals.  The court set the opening date for the new proposals on Friday, June 15.

As we reported back in April, Charles Slack, who was leasing the Library Cafe was three months behind on rent and owed the County $630.  The lease agreement states that the County can terminate the lease for non-payment of rent. As of April 10, Slack was four months behind and owe the County $840.

County Commissioners then voted to terminate the lease and signed a notice to vacate the premises giving Slack 10 days to get out of the building.  The court then began the process of finding another vendor to operate in the library cafe.
