More than 2,500 attend Goodfellow Air Force Base Appreciation Day.

SAN ANGELO, TX — Goodfellow Air Force Base Appreciation Day was a success this year. More than 2,500 people attended the free event put on by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce with the help of generous sponsors and many volunteers.

It was the second highest attendance for the event, said Amanda Hodges, director of membership for the Chamber. “We had a great day,” said Hodges. “Thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and staff, I think our military families had a good time. I know we enjoyed the day with them.”

The weather cooperated with cloudy skies and cool temperatures as Goodfellow AFB families enjoyed a catered picnic, kayaking, live music, rock climbing, bounce houses and other activities at the Bill Aylor Sr. Memorial RiverStage on May 19.

The event was private, but sponsors and volunteers came out in droves to make sure families had fun.

“We couldn’t have done this without the amazing support of the community,” said Bruce R. Partain, president and CEO of the Chamber. “San Angelo backs up Goodfellow and it’s a relationship that we all share and value.”
