SAN ANGELO, TX — Located on the north side of San Angelo, at 301 W. 18th St., is a small church with a rather large and impactful ministry to feed San Angelo’s hungry.
Wesley Trinity Methodist Church touts the smallest congregation and operating budgets in its church district, but its Daily Bread Soup Kitchen Lunch Program serves about 200 hot lunches per day. In 2017, 62,000 meals were served in all.
In Matthew 14:13, we learn how Jesus gathered five loafs of bread and two fish and fed a crowd of thousands. Looking at the serving line on a Wednesday morning, one can imagine the efficiency of feeding so many with so little. The Soup Kitchen operates on a small budget of donated resources from individuals and area churches, including St. Paul Presbyterian Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, and the Goodfellow Air Force Base chapel.

Daily Bread originated on January 8, 1984. Rev. Eugene Raphael, the pastor at the time, wanted to help and support the many people who lost their jobs, homes, and livelihoods during a time of economic instability.
Every week since, the Wesley Daily Bread Program provides lunches Monday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. for adults and children.
On Tuesday, May 1, you can help this small charity that provides the most basic necessity for life, food for San Angelo’s hungry, through the all-day fundraising event called San Angelo Gives, orchestrated by the San Angelo Area Foundation. Every dollar donated Tuesday is amplified with matching gifts. Consider the Wesley Trinity Daily Bread Program, where you can donate directly, here.
