SAN ANGELO, TX — The Mitchell Buick-GMC crew was out in full force today at Cornerstone Christian School, 1502 N. Jefferson, conducting a unique fundraiser for schools introduced by Buick. With a fleet of about a dozen brand new Buicks and GMCs, Mitchell car salesmen were demonstrating the new cars for a small crowd of Cornerstone’s parents, faculty, and staff.
The event is sponsored by Buick and called “Drive for Your Students.”
For every test drive, Buick gave Cornerstone $10. Then Mitchell Automotive Group matched the donation. There were 78 test drives between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. today.
Bryan Bass, salesman, was demonstrating the 2018 GMC Sierra SLE, which is the dealership’s best selling vehicle. It’s a pickup. Bass has been selling cars in San Angelo since 1996 when he joined Lynn Alexander’s team at his Chevy store here. When Alexander sold out, Bass moved to Mitchell. So he’s seen the ups and downs of the retail car market here over 20 years.
His summation is that the new car market is performing well right now, an indicator of a very strong economy. He noted his dealership broke a long-held unit sales record in February.
Saturday’s event at Cornerstone raised $1,560 for their junior and senior class trips. For those who took a test drive, they are eligible for special “supplier pricing” on any new Buick or GMC purchased over the next 6 months. Bass said the deal places the cost to the customer of many of the Buick models in particular at or just below the invoice price.
