Health Foundation Awards $1.1 Million to San Angelo Area Non-Profits in 1st Quarter of 2018

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — Board Chair Marilyn Aboussie announced the San Angelo Health Foundation has awarded $1,140,186 to four area nonprofits. 204 organizations and 684 projects have benefitted from Foundation funding.

Grants Chair David Lupton said the following grants encompass health care, mental health and rehabilitation services:

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council was awarded $600,000 towards the construction of the Journey Recovery Center. The plan for the Center will combine its residential treatment services in one location. The Center will accommodate 30 male treatment beds and 18 female treatment beds. Also included will be a new detox center.

Angelo State University’s Laura W. Bush Institute for Women’s Health was awarded $268,686 over two years for the Access to Breast Care for West Texas program. The funds will enable them to continue their mission of assisting women in ten counties with breast cancer screening and treatment programs.

Pregnancy Help Center was awarded $200,000 to add an STD clinic at their existing facility. The STD clinic will fill a gap in services for the Concho Valley by providing free STD testing, counseling and education.

Sonrisas Trails was awarded $71,500 toward the construction of a therapeutic ropes course for veterans, children and adults with disabilities. Studies have shown the physical and mental benefits of their equine therapy are the same for a therapeutic ropes course. The ropes course will enhance the therapeutic benefits of their programs.
