Goodfellow AFB Earns High Marks in Higher Command's Inspection

SAN ANGELO, TX — The 17th Training Wing underwent a unit effectiveness inspection the week of January 29 and earned a grade of “highly effective”.

Out of the 14 wings and 12 bases within Air Education and Training Command, Goodfellow is the second wing to earn the grade since the UEIs began in 2014.

A UEI is an external, continual evaluation of wing performance based on managing resources, leading people, improving the unit and executing the mission. The UEI serves both purposes of an external inspection: providing an independent assessment of wing effectiveness and validating the commander inspection.

According to AFI 90-201, this UEI was a continual evaluation of performance throughout the inspection period, like a photo album versus a snapshot of the wing. The inspection period begins immediately after the close-out of the previous UEI report, which is typically 24 to 30 months rotation.

A “highly effective” rating means that a wing meets or exceeds the criteria for an effective rating, and most or all inspected items are found to be consistently true.

“None of this would have been possible without the Airmen who work hard every day to ensure the mission is accomplished,” said Col. Ricky Mills, 17th Training Wing commander. “Thank you for all of your hard work, flexibility, and dedication to the mission.”
