San Angelo’s Economic Development Director Resigns

SAN ANGELO, TX -- City management is considering how best to fill a vacancy in the economic development director’s post following the resignation of Roland Peña.

Peña’s last day with the City will be Feb. 28. He has served the City four years.

The City’s Economic Development Department serves as the staff of the City of San Angelo Development Corp. The COSADC board administers the half-cent sales tax for economic development. That involves using funds generated by the tax in incentive packages to diversify the economy, expand the property tax base, foster business growth and increase job opportunities.

The Economic Development Department does so in coordination with partners such as the Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Development Center, Workforce Solutions of the Concho Valley, Downtown San Angelo, Inc., Angelo State University, Howard College and the Ports-to-Plains Alliance. The Economic Development Department’s efforts include the Business Retention & Expansion Program and development of the Industrial Park.

“Roland has performed admirably in addressing the economic development needs of our community,” City Manager Daniel Valenzuela said. “His and his staff’s numerous accomplishments highlight his tireless efforts. He will be greatly missed.”

In his resignation letter, Peña expressed gratitude to City management, San Angelo’s citizens, and members of the City Council and the COSADC board.

“It has been an honor to serve you,” he wrote.
