Chamber Hosts Large Group of Tour Operators to Promote San Angelo as Tourist Destination

SAN ANGELO, TX — More than 15 group tour operators from the U.S., Canada and China experienced highlights of San Angelo this week during a three-city tour dubbed “Forts, Frontiers & Fixer-Uppers.”

The staff of the San Angelo Convention & Visitors Bureau, a division of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, showed off the city during a familiarization tour organized through the National Tour Association and the Office of the Texas Governor, Economic Development & Tourism. The group visited locations throughout the city including Fort Concho, the San Angelo Performing Arts Center, Murphey Performance Hall, the Chicken Farm Art Center and historic Concho Avenue — in addition to a windshield tour of other attractions Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 13-14.

“By collaborating with the cities of Waco and Abilene, we were able to introduce the attendees to our region of Texas. We look forward to having the operators back in the city in the future so that we may continue showcasing San Angelo as a visitor destination,” said Diann Bayes, vice president of the San Angelo CVB.

NTA is holding its annual marketplace in San Antonio this week, bringing tour operators from around the world to convene in Texas. The San Angelo CVB will represent the community at the marketplace.

The group also visited the cities of Waco and Abilene. Margaret Hoogstra, Executive Director of the Texas Forts Trail Region, served as the step-on-guide for the three-city tour.
