San Angelo Wins Big Oil Field Manufacturing Plant

SAN ANGELO, TX—Dragon announced today the acquisition of a new 19-acre production tank manufacturing plant north of San Angelo, at 6738 Sideview Rd., off US. 87 North. The building is the former National Oilwell Varco facility with 117,880 sq. ft. sitting on 19 acres. NOV departed San Angelo in early 2016.

The purchase comes in response to increased customer demand for the company’s surface production equipment in the Permian Basin.

“San Angelo is a great community to do business in,” said San Angelo Mayor, Brenda Gunter said, “I am very excited to welcome Dragon into our business community.  They bring with them a history of creating jobs with great pay and a product that will support the oil and gas industry.  We need job growth that provides a living wage not a minimum wage. They will bring economic development efforts to a new level.”

The newly acquired facility will continue to build API certified production tanks and also has the capability to build fiberglass tanks. Dragon already has four other API approved facilities and offers a complete line of surface production equipment as well as production pumps, field service and aftermarket parts. With the recent addition of the San Angelo plant, Dragon’s manufacturing site count now stands at 21 and marks the 5th facility dedicated to the company’s surface production equipment.

“This acquisition was a customer-driven decision,” said Willo Crenshaw, President, Dragon PES Inc. “Our customers are demanding high quality, reliable equipment at a lower cost. San Angelo’s proximity to the Permian Basin and the area’s strong and capable work force provide a great solution for our customers, the San Angelo community and our company. We think it’s a win-win solution across the board.”

The plant is expected be back in full tank production under Dragon leadership by December 1. Sales, service and parts for both production pumps and production equipment will be open for business the end of September.

“The Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Division is very proud to have worked hard with the Dragon leadership team as they explored the San Angelo market and community,” said Michael Looney, VP of Economic Development.  “Dragon will be a significant employer of San Angelo’s skilled labor force and an invaluable community partner. We are pleased to welcome Dragon to San Angelo and we are continuing to work with them as they integrate into the community and regional market.”  San Angelo Chamber of Commerce President, Mike Boyd added, “this is a win for Dragon and a win for San Angelo.  We are pleased that San Angelo has been selected as the home of Dragon’s newest production facility, and look forward to helping Dragon grow and reach their full production potential.  San Angelo appreciates Dragon’s confidence in our labor market and ability to meet their needs.”

Daniel Valenzuela, San Angelo City Manager commented, “The positive economic impact of Dragon in San Angelo will be significant.  Dragon will begin the hiring process very soon, and will create up to 100 new jobs initially, with an employee count of up to 200 as the fabrication facility is brought to full operational capacity.  We are very pleased to welcome such a powerhouse company to San Angelo and look forward to years of community collaboration with their leadership and employees.”
