SAN ANGELO, TX — The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce announced today that Mike Boyd, a long-time local banker and civic leader, has been appointed San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Interim President effective immediately.
Boyd's appointment assumes the duties of former President and CEO, Dan Koenig, who resigned in late August to accept a similar position with the Council Bluffs, Iowa Area Chamber of Commerce.
"Mike has a long history of active and successful community involvement in San Angelo, great leadership skills and understands the Chamber and the issues and opportunities facing our area," Chuck Shore, Chamber Board Chair, said. "Mike is a past chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors and is deeply involved in military affairs at Goodfellow Air Force Base. I'm confident the Chamber will be well served in our transition and search for a new President."
"I was hoping to enjoy retirement a little longer," said Boyd who retired two months ago after a 41-year banking career with First Financial Bank, San Angelo. "But it didn't take long for me to say yes to the opportunity. I was honored to be asked and I'm looking forward to the chance to work with area businesses on the issues they face and to make San Angelo a better place for businesses to grow."
In addition to his banking career, Boyd is a retired Colonel of the Texas Army National Guard and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan.
Boyd brings a long history of community involvement to the Chamber. Boyd was named Citizen of the Year by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce in 2016 and presently serves on Shannon Hospital Board of Trustees, is Chairman of the San Angelo Health Foundation, a member of the Howard College Foundation Board, Vice President of the San Angelo Stock Show and Rodeo Foundation, a member of the San Angelo Stock Show Association and serves as the current Chairman of the City of San Angelo Water Advisory Board.
A sampling of Boyd's past civic involvement includes serving as a Chairman of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Past Chairman of the West Texas Rehabilitation Center Board, Past President of San Angelo Industries, President of the National Guard Association of Texas and a Past Chairman of the Baptist Memorial Board.
Boyd and his wife Treva have been married 44 years and they have two sons and four grandchildren.
Shore said the Chamber's Board has established a committee to conduct a nation-wide search to secure a new president and hopes to have the position filled permanently within two or three months.
Outgoing President Dan Koenig told us last month that the open position in Iowa is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The position at Council Bluffs will probably never come open again within his lifetime, he said. Council Bluffs is near where Koenig's parents live and where Koenig grew up.
