SAN ANGELO, TEXAS -- After three decades in a donated building, the Concho Valley Regional Food Bank is moving to a new 6,375 sq ft facility. The new building will allow the non-profit food provider to increase efficiency and provide more programs to the community.
Food Bank Executive Director Greg Duke told LIVE! Wednesday that funding for the new building came from a variety of sources, “the total cost of the new building is $1,386,500." The million dollar endeavor is being funded by the "San Angelo Health Foundation, the San Angelo Area Foundation, the Kickapoo Springs Foundation and the Food Bank itself,” Dike added. While construction of the new facility is fully funded, the food bank still needs additional resources. The new building will be constructed in front of the current facility located at 1313 S. Hill St. in San Angelo.
The 75 ft by 85 ft building will include new office space, a new board room and warehouse space. Duke says they will continue to use the current facility until the new building is constructed, “We have a lot of volunteers from Goodfellow Air Force Base and we’re open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The new space will allow us to use those volunteers more efficiently.”
Duke explained that the Food Bank has a construction contract with Sunbelt Construction and are about a week away from receiving their construction permit. He expects construction to take 38 weeks which would put completion around March of 2018.
The Concho Valley Regional Food Bank provides donated food to programs in 14 counties that make up the Concho Valley. According to the Food Bank's website, “The Food Bank is a good source of safe, inexpensive food eliminating the need for food collection. Food collected is inspected by a licensed facility.”
The Food bank does not distribute food to individuals, but any 501C3 non-profit with a food program is eligible. The Concho Valley Regional Food Bank is licensed by the Texas Department of Health and is a member of Feeding America.
