Texas Business Women Seek Successful San Angelo Women to Honor

SAN ANGELO,TX- The Texas Business Women (TBW) association is calling on residents of The Concho Valley to help suggest successful and involved women in the community to be honored during Business Women’s week this October.

Mary Blakeley, Chair of the Women to Honor Committee, has been actively looking for ways to reach out into the community and find business women to receive this honor.

“We are trying to show that women in the community are doing a lot to [strengthen] our city,” Blakeley said. “There are a lot of powerful women in San Angelo.”

The criteria for selecting the nominees consists of their career, community work, and if they are involved with their families outside of work. Those submitting applications for recommending an honoree should send as much information as possible. Blakeley listed accomplishments, awards received, and places of education as some of the key information to be submitted with the application.

“The more information we receive, the better off we are with selecting honorees,” Blakeley said.

There will be six honorees this year, and the application deadline is Friday, September 30.

The annual banquet will be held at the Bentwood Country Club on October 20 at 6 p.m., and is open to the public. A buffet will be available as well.

A plaque and rose will be handed to each honoree at the banquet to signify this accomplishment. The TBW will also write a detailed biography of each honoree to show why they were selected for the award.  

Last year, there were eight nominees honored at the banquet, including Sandra Gray, JoAnna Alexander and Teddye Reag.

Honorable mentions, or those who don't quite make the final cut for the nominations, are also acknowledged.

The purpose behind the selections is to show that San Angelo has many empowered women in the community who help with bettering themselves and the people around them.
