San Angelo's Chamber of Commerce Welcomes New Screen Printing Business

Members of the Chamber of Commerce and San Angelo Comadre gathered at the Visitor Center this foggy morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony, signifying the opening of a new screen printing business in town.

Jason Franklin is now the owner of Major Ink, along with wife Kassi, son Jason, and designer Preston Bates.

"We're a small company, just a screen printing company right now," he explained. "We screen print on any type of athletic apparel - T-shirts, hoodies, towels - for any occasion. It doesn't matter if it's a sporting event, family reunion, birthday party; we just try to be able to provide a service to the customer in any form or fashion."

Franklin added that while the company is only sticking to screen printing for now, there may be other services offered by Major Ink in the future.

"We're starting out small, but as we continue to grow, we would like to tap into other sides of the business like embroidery, maybe business cards, and things of that nature. We are very ambitious and very excited," he said.

According to Franklin, the opening of Major Ink has been a long time coming. He stated, "Since I was a kid, I've always wanted to own something, work for myself and have my own business."

After having surgery on both legs and spending six months out of work, he decided it was now or never.

"I was talking to my wife and praying to God," said Franklin. "I was like, 'You know what? I really want to go into business for myself. This is what I want to do. I really want to start a screen printing business.'"

Franklin noted that he initially knew absolutely nothing about the business; however, his wife was 100 percent behind him. So they started taking trips to Fort Worth to gain some more insight into his dream.

"I met this lady, and she really took me under her wing," explained Franklin. "She pretty much showed me the way and has been educating me. She and her husband have a combined 50 years experience, and they have really been amazing to me and my family."

Even though this business venture came from zero experience, Franklin said he's confident he has learned the ins and outs of the business and is ready to serve San Angelo.

"When I am passionate about something, I really do my homework," he stated. "I really spend the time to learn and focus and study, and try to perfect what I am doing. So, I've put in the time with taking classes and practicing--a lot of trial and error. So here we are today. We're up and running and ready to go."

While Major Ink's website and Facebook page are currently under construction, the owners assured that they would be up very soon. However, for more information on the new business, stop by the location at 2710 Sherwood Way, or give them a call at 325-703-6075.
