EU Ambassador to the U.S. to Speak in San Angelo

David O’Sullivan, Ambassador of the European Union to the United States, will be keynoting a luncheon on Thursday, November 19, 11:45 am – 1:15 pm, at the McNease Convention Center hosted by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.

An Irish national, O’Sullivan has a background in economics and diplomacy, graduating from Trinity College in Dublin, with graduate studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium. He has represented the 28 member countries of the European Union since November 18, 2014, serving as the formal EU Ambassador to the United States.

In remarks to local business representatives with the general public welcome, Ambassador O’Sullivan is expected to address issues of business and trade in his remarks, noting that Texas exported $29.9 billion per year in goods to European Union countries on average between 2012 and 2014, including agricultural products, petroleum and energy products, chemicals, computers and electronics, machinery and transportation equipment. Other topics Ambassador O’Sullivan may address are terrorism and counter-terrorism, global immigration challenges, and challenges to the Trans-Atlantic Alliance, among others. A question and answer session will follow his remarks.

“We are very excited about hosting Ambassador O’Sullivan in San Angelo, and thrilled that he is making time for an event open to the public so that all of us can hear his thoughts about trade and other global issues,” noted Phil Neighbors, San Angelo Chamber President. “Of course, we’re equally pleased to be able to show him our unique corner of the world—the outstanding people and diverse economy right here in San Angelo.” He added that San Angelo native son and Washington DC government relations executive Mario Castillo was instrumental in opening up this opportunity for O’Sullivan to visit San Angelo.

Tickets to the luncheon are $20 per person, offered as long as space is available. Tickets may be purchased from the Chamber of Commerce website, www.sanangelo.org, by clicking on the registration link on the home page.  Tickets will also be sold at the Chamber of Commerce office, 418 W. Avenue B, through the deadline of Monday, November 15th or until all seats are sold.
