After 30 years of bringing bold colors and boundless creativity to Concho Avenue and beyond, a signature downtown signature boutique is closing its doors.
“For more than 30 years, I’ve lived and breathed and enjoyed J. Wilde’s,” owner Joyce Wilde said. “Thanks to the support, friendship and loyalty of a host of people the boutique has been my ‘dream come true.’ But dreams, even the ones we’ve lived and cherished, change.”
J. Wilde’s will be the site of closeout sales and celebrations beginning tomorrow and lasting through early May. Inventory in the store and in the warehouse will be sold.
In the late 1980s, Wilde helped pioneer the revitalization of downtown San Angelo by being the first to stake her claim on Concho Avenue. The boutique has served as a highly visible anchor attracting the attention and patronage of shoppers from across the region and the country.
“When we started J. Wilde’s, we were a retail outpost—all alone down here,” Wilde said. “It has been wonderful to be part of the revitalization of downtown. I love that these beautiful, old buildings are housing growing businesses and that downtown is reclaiming its position as the vibrant heart of the city.”
Wilde is closing the store in order to spend more time with her family and in her studio.
“I’m looking forward to spending time with my family, foraging for cast-off objects that are just waiting to be turned into art, and creating at my home studio,” Wilde said.
She is not retiring from the creative process and will continue to operate J. Dorotik’s Icehouse (215 South Oakes).
“J. Dorotik’s Icehouse is home to a new brand of muted, industrial-inspired funkiness,” Wilde said. “Because J. Dorotik’s is open only for 15 hours per week, the undertaking is manageable.”
In addition, Wilde will continue to take on special decorating and event planning projects on a very limited basis.
“For me, this manageable mix is the best of all worlds – and another dream come true,” Wilde said. “To steal a line from Green Day, ‘every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end.’ Frankly, I feel like we’re just getting started, so hang on for a wild, unpredictable ride— just the way I like it.”

After such a pissing match that went on downtown for so long, what ever happened to that horny cactus eatery that was just busting at the seams wanting to be built ? ? ?

PermalinkMs. Wilde, that line is actually from Semisonic's 'Closing Time' and not Green Day. Regardless, the quote and song title are fitting.
