The Lone Star Cheeseburger food truck will soon be operational again. Owner Tim Condon and team were seen Friday morning setting up a trailer twice the size of the last one that was destroyed in a grease fire on Valentine’s Day.
With the remnants of the charred food trailer still fresh in memory, Condon has taken measures to ensure flames never claim his business again with the purchase of a $17,000 fire suppression system.
“We’re never going to catch fire again,” Condon said.
Lone Star Cheeseburger re-opens Wed., Apr. 15. It’s also tax day! Condon said that the first 20 customers that order lunch at the window that day would win free cheeseburgers for the rest of 2015. The food wagon opens promptly at 10:30 a.m. Condon said some may choose to camp out in the covered outdoor seating area is much nicer and larger than before.
What’s new? The El Paso and the Classic Cheeseburgers are on menu.
In the El Paso, it includes salte’ed peppers, onions, Jalapenos, bacon, beer-battered onion rings, and their house mayonnaise with cheddar cheese. The Classic is just that: a Classic cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, cheddar cheese with mayonnaise and mustard. “Everyone was asking for these special cheeseburgers, so we added them to the permanent menu,” Condon said.
Condon said that brick-and-mortar restaurants view askance his food wagon operation. “Dollars per square foot, we’re four times more profitable than a stand-alone restaurant,” Condon said.
Lone Star Cheeseburger offers delivery anywhere within the San Angelo city limits for $5. What makes their delivery special, however, is that the crew will deliver anything sold at the Eskimo Hut convenience store next door. "It's not uncommon to deliver an order for a cheeseburger and a can of Copenhagen," Condon said with a laugh.
The food trailer is located at the Eskimo Hut parking lot at the corner of W. Beauregard Ave. and S. Abe St., or 333 W Beauregard Ave,.
