San Angelo Carino's Staff Turns Woman's Bad Day Around with Act of Kindness

A San Angelo woman having a bad day was cheered by a random act of kindness Friday, when she met with a friend at the San Angelo Carino’s for lunch and dished on her latest struggle with her daughter’s kaput computer.

The woman vented to her friend, explaining after only two years the hard drive of the laptop had stopped working and all of her data was lost. Her daughter attends Texas Tech, she explained, and the laptop was used for schoolwork. She has a paper due soon and needs to be able to work on it.

Having spent over an hour on the phone with technical support, the woman was a bit stressed about the situation. When her waitress Melinda overheard the tale, she went to manager Casey Smith and told her what was going on.

“My server had come to tell me that the lady at her table was kind of upset and having a rough day, and I was like, ‘You know, if she’s having a rough day, let’s take care of her’. When people are having a bad day, sometimes it’s the easiest to have somebody turn their day around, so let’s buy them lunch.”

Smith said that in the two years she’s been at the restaurant, they’ve bought the lunches of about four to five people who come in downtrodden and facing personal issues.

“It’s just for me…if somebody can make my day better it’s usually the little things that make a difference,” she said. “We’ve all had computer problems. They were here replacing my computer the day before yesterday and then she comes in and that’s what her issue was. If there was anybody in the restaurant that understood we all did because we had our computer system go down the day before.”

The woman with the computer issues said she was grateful for the gesture the manager and waitress had shown, stating, “I was so touched! It really made my day!!”

Hopefully people that read this don't go in for meals now and sit and complain about their days so they can possibly get a free meal.
In this day and age where we thrive on reading about the proverbial "train wrecks" in our society, it is always nice to read about the good things that go on in the world around us. I am of the belief that there is a lot more GOOD being done by great people than bad. Thank you for reporting on one of the many good things happening in San Angelo. Some of your readers may feel that it was a waste of internet space and of their time, but not this reader. And maybe instead of people going into Carino's looking for a handout, they will reconsider how they act and react with the people around them; maybe they will take the time to reach out to somebody else and do something nice "just because." :)
