Christy Youker of the Upper Colorado River Authority (UCRA) announced today the Aqua Squad for 2014 – a group of 10 middle schoolers tasked with the job of being water stewards and ambassadors for our community.
Students from all three San Angelo ISD middle schools applied, which included a written application, teacher recommendations and an interview. They will spend 3 weeks learning from experts in hydrology, watershed studies, conservation, as well as, communication, art and design.
This is the fifth group of students in this program and is the result of a partnership among the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts (SAMFA), the Upper Colorado River Authority and SAISD. Aqua Squad will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsyvania this summer and work with a group of high school students called “Project Flow” that are helping the City of Philadelphia educate the city on water pollution concerns. They will produce a joint exhibition upon their return.
SAMFA, UCRA and SAISD are proud to recognize these students.
A reception will be held May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the UCRA Water Education Center, 417 S. Oakes. We will also recognize past Aqua Squad members for their contributions to our community.
