The 28th annual San Angelo Home Builders Association Home and Garden Expo will be held this weekend. Janis Baucom, who has been with the HBA for 10 of those years said that the show has been a tremendous success in the past. "When I got started with the HBA, we probably had 2,000 people through the door. Last year we saw 3,000," she said, as she readied her own booth for her business, Walls & Windows.
"The HBA is comprised of local home builders and associate builders. We have over 130 members, home builders and associate members," she said. An associate member is a business that contributes to the home building process, such as a plumbing contractor, or wall Coverings Company like what Baucom owns.
Baucom said that she attributes the success of the HBA Expo over the years to the fact that "it's a one stop shop" for building a new home, or more popular for many, remodeling and landscaping in San Angelo.
There are hundreds of booths being readied in the Wells Fargo Pavilion Friday.
Lynsey Flage, executive director of the HBA is particularly excited about the classes that will be held at the expo. Five classes are planned, including:
- "Simple Designs for Different Styles" by Inspired Designs
- "Low Maintenance Landscapes" by Schertz Landscape
- "Make Your Water Work Even SMARTER for the Future" by Morrow Water Savers
- "Bring Your Lawn Back to Life" by Bes-Tex Supply
- "DIY Tile Installation" by Lowe's Home Improvement
Flage said that the Morrow Water Savers presentation by Paul James will be a very unique session. "He's from Australia and has the unique experience of planning and building homes in the barren, waterless outback," Flange said. James is an expert in what is called "gray water plumbing" and is a featured speaker at leading international technology and water conservation events. His presentation is at 3 p.m. Saturday and seating is limited: first come, first served.
In addition to the exhibits and sessions, there will be a "Build and Grow" kid's building activity session sponsored by Lowe's held continuously from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. "Moms can drop their kids off, and technicians from Lowe's will guide kids through a small building project of their own. And then mom can go shop," Baucom said.
The HBA Home and Garden Expo is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 22, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 23.
