The Showdown in San Angelo was named event of the year by Lucas Oil.
“Thanks to the hard work of our Steering Committee, the support of our sponsors, and the dedication of the hundreds of volunteers that make our Showdown in San Angelo Drag Boat Races such a success, our event was named 'Event of the Year' by Lucas Oil Company at their Annual Banquet in Las Vegas last week,” stated an entry in the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce weekly update.
Pamela Miller, Vice President of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, mentioned that San Angelo is a favorite of the racers from Lucas Oil.
“We’re thrilled the racers think so much of us, it's great Lucas Oil thinks so much of us,” Miller said. She then described that it is a favorite because spectators can watch from both sides of the lake.
According to Miller, the number of spectators rose from 10,000 in 2012 to 11,000 in 2013.
“The numbers are great; we have a consistent growth every year,” Miller stated. “It’s one of the biggest economic events in San Angelo.”
She mentioned that the event is well organized and Lucas Oil is always a pleasure to work with.
