Junkers Upcycle Old Wares at Trunk Show

“Rusty, crusty, crafty, blingy, and junky,” is how this weekend’s Upcycling Sophisticate Trunk Show could be described.

Linda Bingham, from Comanche,TX, brought the show to San Angelo. “We are hosts [of the trunk show] but we are also in the junkin’ business,” Bingham said.

Junkin’ refers to finding used objects to repurpose into usable furniture.

Bingham, who grew up building and refurnishing pieces, said that she used find objects all over—even in dumpsters. She created the event in order to help other junkers sell their treasures.

Vendors at San Angelo’s event were selling everything from carpentry work and stained glass to clothing for Barbie dolls.

When shopping at the event Bingham said, “A lot of people look at the economy side. We can support the local business by doing this.”

Bobbie Hasty of Swankee Gray was a vendor at the Upcycling Sophisticate. She said the furniture she sells has character. “Each piece is like none other,” Hasty said.

Vintage furniture, an old doorway, and a chandelier made of half of a world globe were a few of the items being sold at the Swankee Gray booth.

Bingham said the event helps foster creativity by allowing people to sell items they have created. She said that it is both economical and environmental for the buyer.

“The event has been around for about six months...Next year we have events all over Texas,” She said.

Bingham no longer ‘junks,’ but instead is focused on enhancing the popularity and sales of other junkers. She is working on expanding the event to the coastline of Texas.

The Upcycling Sophisticate Trunk Show is planned to become a twice a year event for San Angelo, and in case you missed it this weekend, Bingham will be back June 6 and 7 to host another show. For more information on the event visit theupcyclingsophisticate.com.
