Come the end of January, a shiny new Baymont Inn and Suites will stand at the corner of Bryant and 14th Street.
The hotel will be three stories tall with 76 rooms and is owned by four locals, Kevin Albright, Jeff Atkinson, Tom DeLaughter, and Louis Blaneck.
Tom DeLaughter, an equal partner with over 15 years of real estate experience, mentioned the housing need as the reason they chose to build a hotel on the property.
“Any given night San Angelo can be sold out of rooms,” said DeLaughter, “and the north side of San Angelo has needed a hotel for a long time.”
Construction started the Tuesday after Labor Day by BriMark Builders out of Wisconsin, who are also putting up Cobblestone Inn and Suites in Big Lake, Stanton, and Colorado City.
DeLaughter also expressed interest in having one to two restaurants set up shop in front of the hotel and thus far has had several inquiries.
Who knows, maybe a Dunkin’ Donuts will set up shop in front of the new Baymont.
