Catfish Corner to Re-Open This Winter

Catfish lovers rejoice!

This winter, Catfish Corner is re-opening, bigger and better than ever.

“It’s almost ready,” said Glenna McQueen, manager of Catfish Corner. “If not by December, than by January 2nd.”

On Feb. 20 earlier this year, an electrical fire burned down the old Catfish Corner and the building was a total loss.

“I was devastated,” said McQueen, “you never think something will happen.”

Catfish Corner has been a staple in the community for 22 years, and even with the fire, many opportunities have presented themselves to the restaurant: the new eatery will have more parking, a bigger building, be licensed to serve beer and wine, televisions, and of course, a brand new building.

“I think it will be a lot nicer atmosphere for people,” said McQueen. “I think our customers will be pleased.”

Catfish Corner also features a private dining area, and will be another place to watch the game.

“We had a lot of people say that if we had beer and a TV then they would come,” said McQueen, “now we have them.”

Despite all the new changes, the menu will still be the same.

“We didn’t change anything,” explained McQueen. “We still have our delicious fried catfish, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms.”

The only change in the menu will be the addition of healthier options like a grilled chicken salad and a grilled chicken sandwich. The water will also be reverse osmosis.

There will be a few new faces at the restaurant, with a bigger building, more employees are needed.

“I do have a few coming back,” said McQueen, but expressed excitement at the new hires.

She also looks forward to seeing her favorite customers again, “I’m a people person,” she said with a shrug.

McQueen loves seeing her customers out in public, but it’s not the same as seeing them in her restaurant.

“I’m very excited and I know they [customers] are excited,” said McQueen with a smile. “People keep telling me ‘we can’t wait to come.’”

And they won’t have to wait much longer. As of right now, only the tiling and the front porch need finishing before the new and improved Catfish Corner can open for business.
