Louis was born on December 29, 1962, in San Angelo, Texas, to Willie Zapata and Rachel Garza Zapata. He attended Ft. Concho Elementary School, Edison Junior High School, and Central High School, graduating in 1982. He continued his education at Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI), where he earned his associate degree in dental laboratory technology. There, he discovered his passion for crafting dentures, a profession to which he devoted 44 years of his life.
Louis proudly served four years in the United States Army as a member of the dental unit, taking great pride in his service and contributions. One of the most meaningful experiences of his military service was his time in Costa Rica, where he helped underserved communities by providing dental care to those in need. His dedication to his profession and his service to others were lasting reflections of the man he was.
Above all his accomplishments, Louis found his greatest joy in being "Pa." His love for his "chico," "chiciquito," "chiciqueno", and newest addition- "chiquita" aka "little Chris" was unconditional, and there was never any question of the special bond they shared whenever Pa was around. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable happiness, and his love for them was evident in every moment they spent together. Just as special was his sweet love for his beloved fur baby, Treasure, who held a cherished place in his heart.
Louis also remained a faithful Dallas Cowboys fan through thick and thin. No matter how the team played, his loyalty never wavered. As he would famously say, "They suck, but I'm loyal to the end." His humor, loyalty, and unmistakable personality made him unforgettable to those who knew and loved him.
Louis is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Rachel Zapata and Willie Zapata.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 34 years, Chriselda "Mammas" G. Zapata; his children, Adriana Gamez and her husband, Justin Gamez, and Genaro Gonzales and girlfriend, Izebelle Saldana; and his four cherished grandchildren, Javan Gamez, Jace Gamez, Jameson "Jag" Gamez, and Eliana "Belly" Gonzales. He is also survived by his brothers, Albert Zapata, Willie Zapata, and Alfonso Zapata, along with numerous beloved tias, tios nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear loved ones who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.
Louis will be remembered for his dedication to his craft, his pride in serving his country, his unwavering loyalty, his humor, and, most importantly, the deep and unconditional love he had for his family.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he gave, the memories he created, and the legacy he leaves behind will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Forever loved. Forever missed. Always our Pa.
