No services are scheduled at this time. Services will be at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Ira Lee Routt was born on July 27, 1959 to parents Jodie and Frankie Routt in Brady. He was the 7th of 8 children born to his parents, and as luck would have it, he was born on his brother M.C.'s 6th birthday. Ira attended schools at Brady ISD, and was the local football hero during his high school years, leading the varsity team to a district win at quarterback. The team's state playoff run was halted after Ira suffered serious injuries in a car crash his senior year. Before his football career was taken from him, Ira was a state-ranked quarterback with dreams of playing well after his secondary education. Post graduation, he attended college for 2 years until he settled down into family life.
After years of self-discovery, Ira found his dream job at local Holsum Bakery Factory in San Angelo, where he worked until its closure. He then managed a local apartment complex until later joining the Groundskeeping staff with SAISD. He loved and enjoyed his time with SAISD until retirement. He had a lifelong love of high school sports, including football and track. He lived vicariously through his niece and nephew athletes over the years, with unwavering pride and support to all student competitors whether related by blood or social bonds.
Throughout his early years, Ira was an active member of St. James Baptist Church, where he discovered his love of singing and participating in worship and faith-based activities. He later became a deacon at Trinity Fellowship Church while leading praise ministries through gospel music.
Ira was proceeded in death by his father and mother, one brother, Jodie Routt, Jr., and sisters Frankie Joe and Ezzie Louise.
He is survived by his brothers, Sammy Ray and M.C. Routt, of Brady; his sisters, Loretta Faye Revada of Brady, and Donna Thomas and husband Bo Pete, of Round Rock; four nieces, three nephews, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
