Barbara Jean Hudson Fillpot, affectionately known as Jean, was born February 14, 1941, in Reydon, Oklahoma, to George L. Hudson and Barbara M. Conaway Hudson. Jean passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 in Keller, Texas.
She moved to Texas as a child with her family around 1942, living in the Texas Panhandle before graduating from Hereford High School.
Following high school, Jean went to work at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Jim Fillpot. The two were married on July 27, 1963, and shared more than 56 years of marriage before Jim's passing on April 23, 2020.
In 1973, Jim and Jean moved their family to San Angelo, Texas, where they made their home for many years while Jim served as hospital administrator at Shannon Medical Center. Jean became involved in the San Angelo community and served for a time as president of the garden club. Jean was also an avid reader and had a lifelong love of books. She would often come home from the library with three to five books at a time and had even mastered speed reading. She read so many books that Jim eventually created a catalog on notecards to keep track of the books she had already read and help her avoid checking out the same ones again. Bookshelves throughout their home were filled with books she had enjoyed over the years—a fitting reflection of just how much reading was a part of Jean's life.
Jean loved spending summers at the lake and especially enjoyed traveling with Jim in their RV. Together, they created many wonderful memories through their travels and adventures. But perhaps the greatest joy of Jean's life came with the birth of her granddaughter, Addyson. Jean and Jim treasured the time they were able to spend with her, and becoming grandparents brought them tremendous happiness. In later years, Jean was also blessed with a great-granddaughter, Sadie Jean.
Jean is survived by her son, Jay Stephen Fillpot and his wife, Angela; her daughter, Jody Renea Fillpot and her partner, Connie Adams; her granddaughter, Addyson Trahan and her husband, Cody; and her great-granddaughter, Sadie Jean.
She is also survived by her sisters, Sunny Brush and her husband, Don; Alona Beesinger and her husband, Joel; and Donna R. Luig and her husband, Jason; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Fillpot; her parents, George L. Hudson and Barbara M. Conaway Hudson; her brother, Bobby G. Hudson; and her nephew, Chad Hudson.
During the final years of her life, Jean lived with Alzheimer's disease, a journey that gradually took away many of the memories and abilities that had once defined her daily life. Yet those who loved her will remember Jean not for the disease she endured, but for the life she lived—the summers at the lake, the miles traveled with Jim, the family she loved, and especially the joy she found in being a grandmother.
Jean's family takes comfort in knowing that when her earthly journey was complete, she was reunited with Jim and with the loved ones who went before her.
Visitation for Jean will be held from 8-10 AM on Friday September 4, 2026 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A graveside service celebrating Jean's life will be held at 11 AM on Friday September 4, 2026 at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Barbara “Jean” Fillpot.
