Ida Martinez of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026. She was 95 years old. She was born on January 21, 1931 in San Angelo, Texas to Cecilio Martinez and Minnie R. Valdez. Ms. Ida's father passed away when she was 3 years old.
She attended local schools such as St. Mary’s Catholic School, Fort Concho Elementary, Edison Junior High, Central High School. She graduated from Central High in 1952. Ida later attended San Angelo Business College. She obtained an Associates Degree.
Ms. Ida worked at the Angelus Hotel. She ran manual elevators as a teenager. She also worked at Western Auto. She was the office manager. She briefly worked at Wallace Studios before General Telephone Company. She started as a Mail Clerk, then as an Accounting Clerk, and finally as an Engineering Clerk. She retired after 31 years of service.
Ida was a proud member of the Franciscan Third Order. She was the Treasurer for Franciscan Fraternal Third Order for 11 years. She attended St Mary’s church for a bit and was as CCD teacher. She later was member of Sacred Heart Cathedral where she could found sitting in the second row on Saturdays at 4pm. Ms. Ida volunteered her time to sit an hour for decades at Perpetual Adoration Chapel at St. Margaret’s. She prayed for all of her family members living and deceased.
Ms. Ida played the steel guitar. She was a member of the popular music club and the Spanish Club in High School. She really loved her Novellas, Dallas Cowboys football, and a good sale at Dillard’s. She loved her sweets and always had room for dessert.
Ms. Ida was beloved by her family. Although she never married or had children, her nieces and nephews thought of her as a second mother or grandmother. She was a great example of faith to her family. Ida helped anyone that asked her without hesitation. She lived out her faith. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.
Ms. Ida's memory will be cherished by her sisters, Catherine Valdez and Ella Mae Guajardo, and cousin, Frank Trevino. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A Rosary for Ms. Ida will be held at 6 PM on Sunday July 26, 2026 at Johnson's Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday July 27, 2026 at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Ms. Ida's family would like to extend their thanks to Concho Hearts Hospice, especially caregivers JoLissa, Ashley, Lindsey, and Jasmine; nursing staff Jess, Randi, RaDonna, Jenni, and Jackie; and private caregivers Nicole V. and Monica C. for all the care they gave her.
