Betty Louise Bennett Nelms, 75, of San Angelo, passed away July 7, 2026.
Betty was born February 19, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas, to Dean W. and Yvonne L. Bennett. She graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1969 and earned a Bachelor's of Business Arts degree from Angelo State University. She was married to Johnny Nelms for thirteen years.
Betty retired from Shannon West Texas Memorial Hospital and Community Hospital, where she formed many lasting friendships. A compassionate supporter of her community, she generously contributed to organizations including Meals for the Elderly, the Police Benevolent Foundation, the Wounded Warrior Project, and Holy Angels Catholic Church. She was a talented artist who enjoyed sketching and watercolor painting. She was an avid decorator and organizer for all family occasions. She will be missed by us all.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dean W. Bennett; her mother, Yvonne L. Bennett; her sister, Cecilia L. Allen; her brother, Gordon Dean Bennett; and her nephew, Chase Bennett.
Survivors include her three sisters, Anne San Miguel (Manuel), Mary Lynn Nelms (Mickey), Donna Behringer (Jim); her brother, Karl (Carla) Bennett; one sister-in-law, Carol (Gordon) Bennett, all of San Angelo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:30 am at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Reverend Santiago Udayar as celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Holy Angels Columbarium at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
