Charles Ray Moss III, or Chase as his friends and family knew him, was born on May 1, 1997 in San Angelo to Charles and Jay Moss. He departed this world on the morning of June 30, 2026, and it will be forever dimmer without his presence.
Chase spent his youth in San Angelo with his parents. He attended Austin Elementary, Lee Middle School, and Central High School. He moved as a teenager to Sonora, with his Memaw and Pepaw, Charlie and Debbie Moss. He was a graduate of Sonora High School, class of 2015, due in no small part to the help of his Memaw. School was challenging for him, but not due to his intelligence. His free spirit and brilliant mind struggled with the constraints of a desk and a classroom. He made many lifelong friends along the way.
Chase was a unique person in so many ways. He was beautiful, loving, genuine, selfless. He would be generous without reservation or thought. He lit up any room he entered. He was impossible not to notice. He had an infectious laugh one couldn't help but share. He loved being in or near any kind of water, even as a small child. He learned to swim at an early age thanks to his Aunt Elizabeth and his Grandmama Sally Cawley. He loved nature. He had a miraculous green thumb. He could make anything grow, and on more than one occasion grew and sold his own plants as one of his many side hustles. He was very passionate about animals, especially his dogs. He wasn't their owner, he was their best friend. He never hesitated to put them before himself. Chase was always fascinated by shiny things. Even as a small child he could spot a precious stone or a lost ring, a penny or a bracelet. He just knew where it was. He made and sold his own jewelry at times. He had a gift for tinkering, from electronics to rebuilding firearms, to fixing cars with his Pepaw. Chase never doubted he could do things like other people. He simply figured out a way. We will always wonder how. He was miraculous. An enigma. Nothing about him fit in any one box. His personality was truly a vivid spectrum.
Chase worked various jobs throughout his life, working during his teenage years at the Pizza Hut in Sonora, and later the Sonic Drive-In. He later worked at various Stripes convenience stores in and around Sonora and San Angelo. Towards the end of his journey in this world, he worked for a time at Action Pawn in San Angelo. Those were some of his happiest days, he loved all the treasures he got to see and touch. He was a natural when it came to having an eye for a good buy or a fitting sale, and excelled at it.
His life was full of adventures. The many of us who loved and held him dear mourn him deeply, and are heartbroken we have to live in a world without him, as it will never be the same. Although his journey in this world ended long before it should have, the list of life's he touched, hearts he filled with love is almost endless. Those fortunate enough to have been a part of his life were blessed beyond words, and never had any doubts about his love for them, he was generous with it as well.
Those he leaves behind to carry on his charity and loving spirit are his mother, Jay Grace Moss; his father, Charles Ray Moss, Jr. and fiancée Charlotte; his siblings, Caitlynn House and husband Tim, Christian Moss and Cayle Moss; his nephews and nieces, Fate House, Kai House, Lilith House, and Rhys House. A special mention for his niece he will not meet in this life, but who will carry on one of his nicknames, Violet Jasper House; his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Debbie Moss; his paternal great grandmother, Betty Wilson; his maternal grandmother, Sally Cawley; his maternal great grandmother, Billy Cawley; his paternal aunts, Rene Reeves, Amy Russell, and Kesha Moss; his paternal uncle, Steven Moss; his maternal aunt, Elizabeth Brazzel; his cousins, Katee Ruiz, Cayley Moss, Sage Moss, Stevie Moss, Amber Moss, Taylor Flores, Bryson Williams, Justice Watkins, Jacoby Russell, and Cadence Russell; and many more family and friends too numerous to list.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
