Jane Brooks, 73, of San Angelo passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026 after a courageous battle with ALS.
She was born on April 26, 1953 in Nashville, Kansas to William and Gertrude Wehling and grew up in Isabell, Kansas. She was a 1971 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School in Kansas. Jane attended Pratt Community College and Wichita State here she met her future husband Bernie Brooks. She and Bernie were married on July 6, 1974 and proceeded to move around until they settled in Pocatello, Idaho. Janie worked for School District 25 for over 20 years, retiring from her first career in 2007. After retiring, they moved to San Angelo. Jane promptly graduated from cosmetology school and fixed hair at Hair and Nail Connection before retiring in May of 2025.
In 2024, she was diagnosed with ALS in 2024. She fought the disease with all her heart until the last days of her life.
Jane loved working in the yard, sewing for the grandchildren and being a homemaker to Bernie. She doted on her children and grandchildre.
Jane is preceded in death by her son, Bryan Brooks in 2008.
She is survived by her husband, Bernie of the home; a daughter, Nicole Brooks and her husband Bjarmi Haraldsson of Iowa City, Iowa; a son Bryce Brooks and his wife Jenn Fishbine of Salinas, California; a brother, Lynn Wehling and his wife Kathy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and five grandchildren, Beatrix, Henry, Birdy, Margo and Aiden.
