She was a loving, sweet, warm, kind, gentle, witty, tenderhearted mother and wife who loved God, loved her family, and loved serving people with delicious homemade tortillas, enchiladas, guiso, and lemon meringue pies.
She was brilliantly humble and incredibly smart. In her mid-30s, she returned to school to earn her GED degree, and then earned an associate's degree, setting the stage for an 18-year career at GTE. Actually, she had many careers because she enjoyed working and loved being around people.
More importantly, she became a follower of Jesus Christ in her 30s. God embraced her, and she obediently followed, becoming a Sunday School teacher for many years at Primera Iglesia Bautista and at Lake View Chapel in San Angelo, her hometown. She loved learning and teaching God's Word. She and her husband were also faithful members of Grace Temple Baptist Church in San Angelo for many years.
She had a unique humility to always make people feel special. She loved to laugh and wasn't afraid to poke fun at herself. She had a captivating smile that lit up a room.
Adelfa was born on December 4, 1936, and was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Gilbert, Jr. She is survived by her son, Gilbert, III and wife Beyla of Highland Village; her daughter, Yolanda Adkison and husband Darrel of Stephenville; her son, Daniel of Cedar Park; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
