Vineta “Nita” Mae Buck, 83, was born April 6, 1943, in Naples, Texas, and passed away April 26, 2026. Nita resided in San Angelo, Texas. A woman deeply loved, she carried herself with steady faith, quiet honesty, and a resilience that met life as it came: firmly, thoughtfully, and with enduring grace.
Nita devoted 23 years to law enforcement and earned her Texas Peace Officer certification. She later ran the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Training Academy, where she was known for holding high standards and treating others fairly yet stern when needed, but always grounded in principle. She expected respect, not only for herself and her family, but as a way of living toward others, and that expectation became part of the legacy she leaves behind.
In her life beyond duty, Nita found comfort and satisfaction in the work of her hands and the quiet pleasures of home. She enjoyed counted cross stitch, quilting, puzzles, macramé, and collecting recipes. She could often be found watching the Hallmark channel, and she especially loved petting her dog when she wasn’t getting onto it.
Nita’s family life was central to her heart. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie Dale Rogers (killed in Vietnam), and her husband Orval Clayton Buck (passed away 1980). She is also preceded in death by her father, William Stidham of Rocky Branch, Texas; her mother, Trina Higgins of Rocky Branch, Texas; and her sisters, Linda Ruth of Rocky Branch, Texas, Margie Noble of Winnsboro, Texas, and Jearlene "Mama G" Strickland of Winnsboro, Texas.
Those who survive Nita include her sons, Jimmie Rogers, Jr. of San Angelo, Texas, and Travis Rogers of Lubbock, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Mirrie Rogers of Lubbock, Texas; and her brothers, Buddy Stidham of McKinney, Texas, Wayne Stidham of Haslet, Texas, John Paul Stidham of Lake Whitney, Texas, and David Stidham of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Nita also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews to cherish her memory.
