Gabriel S. Peña, 86, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with Deacon Claudio Sanchez, officiating. Cremation and arrangements are under the direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
Mr. Peña was born March 18, 1940 in Fort Stockton to Ysidro and Eulalia Peña. Gabriel graduated from Reagan County High School in 1959. He married the love of his life, Martha Lara, on November 4, 1961 in Big Lake. He enlisted into the US Air Force and served from 1962 until his departure in 1968. He would move to Fort Worth and work at Bell Helicopter until 1971 when the family would move back to Big Lake. Gabriel went to work for Mobil Oil Co. and he worked until his retirement in 1996. Retirement did not sit well with Gabriel, so he went to work for the Railroad Commission of Texas until 2020. Gabriel was a good husband, father and friend. He will be remembered for his good sense of humor.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Peña; a daughter, Lisa Carrasco and husband Aureliano of Big Lake; two sons, Robert G. Peña and wife Ledy of San Angelo, and Howard Peña and wife Rosa of Midland; nine grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Susana Ramirez, and Irene Almaguer. Gabriel was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Angelita Ramos, and Isabel "Chavela" Baeza, and three brothers, Ysidro Peña, Jr., Natalio Peña, and Adan Peña.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Joe, Rebecca, and Cheyenne of Angels Care Hospice who showed true compassion in caring for Gabe in his last days.
